CURTIN GRAND BALL

November 5th 2004, a night to remember definitely....

Daytime.. everyone was excited about that night.... Well.. at least those that were going anyway...
Once done with everything on campus... went home in the afternoon... and slept the whole day away...
luckily, my sister woke me up at 5.30pm, otherwise I would've just continued sleeping...
within the next half an hour... took a shower... got into my 'whole black' formal attire and went to wait for Nichalos to pick me up.
With him was Renee who was dressed quite nicely, I should say...

Reaching at Parkcity Everly Hotel (where the ball was to be), I went ahead and left Nich & Renee behind cause I was supposed to do some ushering in the beginning of the night....
upon entering, the first two people I met were Abel & VJ.... Abel looked great in his outfit, while VJ's was questionable... hehehehe!
after a while, we met many familiar faces in not so familiar outfits... hahaha!
Everyone looked great that night!!

In the Pavillion where the ball was held in, the decorations were terrible... the backdrop was SO plain... no offense, but this isn't purely my comment....
Tables were not numbered properly.. making us ushers had to memorise the seat numbers of every table!
that was difficult, plus with the guests moving the numbers of the table, when they came, to have a 'better' table.... (Sheesh.... so inconsiderate...)

However... soon our work was done and the function BEGAN!!
The event was hosted by two MCs, Ehon & Renee...
The Student Counsel went to officiate the starting of the Grand Ball...
then, to start things off, Abel sang for us! 'Wonderful tonight'
[I would type out some lyrics of the song, but I don't know the lyrics very well.... ;p]

then as the first dish was served... the Noisy Minority took the stage... with the Mr. & Ms. Curtin finals....
the ten finalists were... Raymond (Ting), Nichalos (Gala), Jack (Gomez), Darryl (How), Voon (Yew Ting), Snow Jae, Giegel, Gretchel, Olga & Michelle. (who was the organising chairlady of this event, btw)
These ten was to perform their talents for us and some judges....
most of them sang for us...
Raymond & Voon sang Chinese songs each, which I don't know the title and sang by who... I have to say, Raymond sang WAY better than Voon.... nothing personal or anything...
Nichalos sang a Malay song titled 'Cinta' while playing the guitar... you should've sang a song from The Calling... I would LOVE to hear you sing one of their songs, but you were still fine anyway.
Jack sang a song which he would like to call as the 'Curtin Anthem'... which included a lot of bad comments about Curtin... written by himself... Good on you, Jack!
Darryl sang, also while playing the guitar. His singing was fine, but unfortunately, practically everyone in the audience could not hear his guitar cause of the poor PA system....
Snow Jae.... sigh... You sang your best... unfortunately, as you said, you were too nervous that you forgotten your lyrics... 'Eyes On Me' by Faye Wong... loved your voice though.. hehehe, soft and high-pitched... reminded me of Joana's singing! SnowJ was accompanied by another, who played the keyboard... was it.. Violla? Sorry.. I'm terrible at remembering new names along with new faces...
Giegel sang 'You are my king' which I heard was a Chritstian song or something related to the religion... while Shennon played the guitar. She sang B-E-A-U-T-FULLY!! It isn't a wonder why she won the Ms. Curtin title! Congratulations!
Michelle played the keyboard on stage, which I heard she had never done before and had only learned to play the keyboard purely for that night! (Applauses to you, Michelle!)
Olga... to be honest, I really didn't like your performance.... no offense or anything... She sang while a male friend of hers played the guitar...
and finally Gretchel! YOU ROCKED THE DANCE FLOOR, GIRL!! *ahem!* with Ehon, your dance partner. I would not doubt that you came second behind Giegel. She danced with Ehon to the beat of 'Baby Boy' by Beyonce Knowles.

Voon won the title of Mr. Curtin which quite some of us disagree... we had actually prefered for Raymond to win.... after all, he sang better than Voon according to most of us..

After Noisy Minority's part... the music club's band took to the stage and had their performances.. singing while playing their instruments...
While everyone else was enjoying the food and taking photos and pictures...
then came some prize-giving for the volleyball and football.. which I found 'inappropriate' for such functions...
the Curtin Grand Ball was more of a prom! Why is there involvement of sports?
because of this involvement, this supposedly formal function dropped drastically down the Formality gauge...

Oh... and by the way.. Abel was drinking quite some glasses of wine as the night progressed... (I'll get back on that later...)

Soon, the winners of the Mr. & Ms. Curtin were announced... Giegel & Voon....
then the winners of the Prom King & Queen were announced... Roland & Ling...
why I never mentioned the Prom King & Queen before? because I didn't like most of the contestants nominated and I found it irrelevent for me in the night....
most of the male nominees were of popularity in the sports group than of looks for the night.... which included Roland....
the girls were fine.. Ling really looked SEXY that night... and not sexy as in lack of clothes sexy, all right?
Nich & Renee were also nominated, but didn't win.... Kian was supposed to be in, but he was not available at the time...

After the announcement of the Prom King & Queen, the winners, Roland & Ling, were to start off the dance for the rest of the night.
A lot of couples slow danced together ol' so intimately....
while there were some people who just danced for the fun! Hahaha!
Me? I got to dance with quite some number of girls... Hehehe!
Serena & Azie, Gretchel, Nadia, Izzah, Ankita, Giegel, Joana and... I think that was all....
First songs were romantic songs... but then suddenly came out some R&B or 'fast' songs starting off with 'Yeah' by Usher, Ludacris & Lil' Jon... which i find so not right for such a night...
sheesh... I thought it was slow dance all through the night! hahaha!
then, came some more slow songs.... then got to dance some more... haha...

Sigh.. as the night came to midnight after.... and the last slow song had played and done... there was a fight.. and guess who was there? The night's Prom King himself, Roland....
I don't wanna bother with the details, cause frankly, I don't know of them and I don't really wanna care....
as the fight progress and started to worsen... me, along with everyone else, left the ball for the hotel's lounge...

ok.. now let's get back to Abel's dirnking... it would've seem that he have had too much to drink.... 16 glasses of wine!! and he said that he didn't have much of solid food in him... thus resulted in his 'giddi-ness'....
As everyone was going home, Iqbal, Sara, Vj and some of the other gang wanted to continue partying at Cheerie Berries.... Abel had actually planned to do such, but, seeing his condition, we thought he should go home and rest... but we gave him to decide... 'Home or Cheerie?'
Abel finally muttered 'hhhhhoommmmm', reluctantly he said.....
With Sara driving his car, Abel sat at the back of his car while I sat at the front...
Driving his own car, Iqbal helped lead Sara to my house and then Abel's...


It was a great time for me that night...
this time, we, CV!, plan to take care of NEXT YEAR'S prom.... with our own theme and everything....
but first, we want to have another formal night like this soon....
we will some time soon... but it's best I leave it as confidential for now... hehe!
