Today came, and it was great!!
As the title says, today was a great day for me...
First of all.. let me start off my blog...
Morning, drove to Curtin.. near arriving, detoured to Curtin Village to pick up Kimmy...
Last night, she'd called me up asking for a lift, since a few of the new students (who live at the Curtin Village as well) wanted to come early to campus for the tutorial registrations...
Picked them up, arrived at school.. and we went off.....
Met with some of the other CV members when arrived at the cafeteria before moving to the Lecture Theater (LT)....
Went into business... discussing and working on the coming orientation sessions....
Had to practise a little on the dancing steps for our tradition song for Orientation, 'Lean On Me'...
Soon, it was time to begin the orientation session... but then.... we had a problem...
the tutorial registrations had already a long queue of students... and including the new students...
darn it.. it was so hard to convince them to leave the queue to get into the LT....
To be honest, I felt SO frustrated... most were very reluctant....
got to convince even some of those.. but then the more stubborn ones.... really hurt me in a way....
to be honest.. I believe I never saw that one particular fellow get into the LT after that.... have to say lah two words... His lose....
really thought he'd be promising enough to return after he told us... but fine....
anyway... we were able to round up most of the new students that were outside in the queue...
and the session finally began.. first, with an energizer to liven the people up...
It was great, cause we had the help of Abel to control the crowd....
then after the energizer, was the Motivational Talk by Sham & Mr. Anba, two amazing lecturers in Curtin...
Sham (She prefers to be called so than with a 'Ms') especially was a particular speaker that the crowd was attracted to.. with her VERY powerful speech....
it even frightens me some times as she speak... hahaa!
Somewhere during her speech, we had a competition between groups among the new student, of making straw towers...
I won't go into details... but all I can say that was some of the students were quite creative at creating their straw towers....
ok... this session over, lunch break... for the new students lah!
we, the CV members, stayed back for a little to practise on our 'Lean On Me' dance again...
practised some more... then the Student Council members came on the dot...
then they took over inside to set everything up for the next session while the CV members went for lunch break..
While lunch break, got to interact with some of the new students, who were at the cafeteria... and we got good feedbacks... they'd enjoyed themselves today, more than the earlier days, thankfully...
And oh yeah... during the earlier session, Abel was able to got the new students into their groups to prepare for their group performances for the coming O-Beach Fiesta... Hooray!!
Anyway... came the next session.. Student Council and Club Presentations...
in this session, Bay & I got to be chosen to be the MCs for the day...
first the session started off with our 'Lean On Me' dance.. haha! It was great!
After that, the new students were introduced with the Student Council members and some of the clubs available in Curtin....
have to say.. it was quite boring actually.... mainly during the club presentation part... until the end of it when it was Curtin Volunteers! turn to present....
and that I believe got the people's attention, cause Abel was asked to talk briefly about the organisation by one of the two CV presidents, Snow Jae...
Oh yeah.. there was something that Abel asked the new students... immediately after Snow Jae's request for him to speak...
"Can you tell me the name of ONE of the presidents of CV?"
his clue was that 'she'd just talked earlier' when there was some hesitations... haha! and guess what happened?
One raised his hand and spoke.. "Tiang!"
I was like... 'SAY WHAT!?'
He spoke louder again when Abel didn't realise it...
this time, everyone was surprised....
while then, I just cheered just for the sake of it! hahaa! There were some of them that actually mistakened me as one of the presidents! hahaha!
OK... at the end of CV's presentation, our CV dance group was brought forward to dance 'Just A Little While' by Janet Jackson... (the same dance steps as the one I joined all-so long ago... sigh... sweet memories)
The group consisted of Gretchel, Joana, Navodi, Giegel & Azie.. I came in somewhere in the middle to do a 'cartwheel'... (lazy to explain what that is....)
and as I did, I did it bad... way out of practise with my lack of wushu participations... but I went for the second round and I accidentally hit Gretchel....
I landed not properly but safely and immediately checked on her.. she was all right and the dance continued...
once out of the dance sequence, I started to feel pain in my knees again... caused by the first cartwheel... sigh... way out of shape and practise.... sigh...
but it was all right.. no harm done, thankfully...
OK.. our presentation over... it ends the session then.... and our work was done...
earlier, we had allocated an hour's time for the new students to do their tutorial registrations after the session and so they went off to do that....
cleared things up in the LT... and I went home with Roger & Tze Yang (driving).... why, since I drove to school in the morning?
my brother had to come to school for the registration as well... so he came to school with his friend and left driving the car....
k.... that over with... arrived home... then had to go to Jonathan's house for a little dinner...
went there.... ate some and I got to play Prince of Persia: Warrior Within...
spent some time there, before going home... and that was all for today then...
Felt great and so cheery during the orientation.. sigh.. just love it...
Foundation O-week next week.. now time to rest for now... sigh... waiter work as usual this Sunday...
tomorrow, may be joining for badminton and hopefully a time out with Gretch, Izzah, Abel & some of the new students...
