Sharing Secrets of Flyff
As some of you may have already know, I've started playing Flyff for some weeks now, since I think early June. It's a pretty good fun game. My characters are in 'Mia' cluster. I'll provide the nicknames if asked.
Compare it to Maple Story, I'd say Flyff beats it easily. Big reason why is because whatever you needed to pay for in Maple (with real money @ a-cash) is available free in Flyff, most of them anyway.
In Maple, you can buy a shop (with real money @ a-cash) so that you can sell your items to other players. With a shop, you'll pretty much gain a big income.
Flyff also has that, but it's FREE!! You can pretty much set one up anytime and almost anywhere in the game!!
Only drawback is that your character can't do anything else when the private shop is opened and you have to be logged up the whole time so that your shop stays open.
But that weakness is somewhat accounted for by the fact that the game allows you to set it into Window Mode (like how your file, internet explorer, etc are in window mode, minimized/maximized/etc.) So, go into Options and put a tick on Window Mode. Restart the game and you can just open your shop, and then proceed to do whatever else on the computer.
Like I said, opening a shop earns you big income. In only a few weeks of playing, my character had already earned over 1 million of the in-game money. Was able to buy some pretty good weapons and equipments cause of that, plus lucky window shopping. ^_^
Anyway, this is not what I wanted to talk about in this post. In my time playing Flyff and looking up guides and tips/hints/etc in the vast world of the Internet, I've been able to learn and put to test some neat tricks/secrets that'd make the game more interesting.
These secrets are not something that just any player would learn/realize on their own that quickly. So, I thought to help out other Flyff players in the game with these secrets.
Let me start off with the most minor of the secrets.
Dynamic Hair Colour
In the beginning, after you've created your character and connect into the game, you'll appear in front of a shining and glowing tower of sorts, around you will probably be other players and some NPCs (Non-Playable Characters). One of the NPCs, a female in a purplish-pink outfit, forgot her name, provides 'Beauty Shop' services. In this beauty shop, you can change your hairstyle and hair color of your liking, all for a price (unlike Maple, it is not paid with real money @ a-cash).
To change your hair color, three bars of colors are provided; red, green and blue. If you have about 4000 penya (in-game money), you can get your hair to be white (though in the game, it looks grey or silver than white). Just get all three provided colors to the furthest right, to the tip of the bar. (Only a few hairstyles look more white than most others)
Now, I've tried this, and it was true as told. Now that your hair is white, it'll constantly change colors depending on where the in-game sun/moon is positioned in the sky. i.e. Blue during sunset. They call it 'Dynamic Hair Color', or something like that.
Honestly, this seems to not apply to your character itself as he/she runs about, killing monsters, etc, but it is clearly shown on your character's image at the top-left corner of the screen.
Like I said, this is just a minor secret. I've done it on my first character. At first it seemed pretty neat, but after only a short while, that was pretty much it.
Next little secret...
Exchanging items between characters without another player's help
All right, in Flyff, there are more than 1 cluster for you to create at most 3 characters in. Each cluster is a world of its own, and no character from different clusters can ever meet to go visit the other clusters. Now, in a cluster, you can create at most 3 characters, like I said a moment ago. These 3 characters can open their own separate little bank storage to store their own extra items, if they've no more space in their inventory to carry items around.
(BTW, the NPC with the name '[Public Office] NPC's name' is the one that provides this bank storage labeled 'Deposit'. you'll need to provide a 4-digit password. One such NPC is available in every town/city.)
But, what happens if you got an item that is useful for your other character? And in Flyff, there is no automatic way provided to just transfer the said item to your other character's storage.
One way to do so would be to have a trusted friend to have his/her character with you to get the said item/s, wait for you to re-log in with your other character, and then make the exchange again. This works, but has some problems; your friend might not be online, a random stranger may just decide to keep the items instead, and it's time-consuming for both of the players.
There IS an easier way.
There's a NPC, whose name starts with '[Station] NPC's name', in a purplish outfit and a hat of sorts. One such character is available in every town/city in the game, some harder to find than most.
This NPC has an option called 'Mailbox', which allows players to send mails to other player's characters, along with some item to give to them if any. All you needed to do was provide the EXACT name of the character that you wanna send the mail to, and drag and drop the item you want to send into the provided box, and then click 'Send'.
After a short while, your item disappears from your inventory and a message says 'Your mail has been sent.'
Now, this works with one character sending to another.... which actually means you can send any item to your own other character, provided you type the recipient's EXACT name (exact same letters/symbols and exact same capitalizations). Once you've sent the mail, just re-log in with your other character, and 'DING', you've got mail!
Just check your 'Mailbox', double click on the mail, drag the item into your inventory, then done.
Be advised. The mail received will be deleted automatically after 15 real-world days; along with any items that may still be attached in the mail.
Now, this last secret I have for you, is by far the most worthwhile secret that any player would like to achieve, but must have a determination to do it til it's done.
Obtaining a Light-blue name for your character
Now, all right, some of you are probably thinking, 'What? What's so special about having a light-blue name for my character?'.Let me make something clear for you.
In the game, there are different clusters to play in. And in each clusters, there are different servers to play in. These servers are within the cluster, so characters can change between the different servers. There's one particular server that is special, the PK server. PK stands for 'Player Kill'.
In Flyff, there's one part of the game that allows you to fight against other characters; one-one duel (PvP, Player versus Player), party duel, guild wars. In the PK Server, as long as your character is not of Vagrant class, you can hit and kill or be killed by other characters. When a player kills another character, that killed character MAY drop some of his items from his inventory, like how a killed monster would drop some items and money. I am not sure if the killed character's equipped stuffs would drop as well, or not, but I believe they won't.
To hit another character, hold press 'Ctrl' button on your keyboard and then left click on the character. I read somewhere that the character you wanna hit must be within the 30 levels difference; i.e. a lv 50 character can't hit a lv 15 character. I'm not too sure if this restriction is valid or not, but I sure as heaven hope so.
Now, there's another something when it comes to PKing. There is Karma.... literally. Depending who you hit or killed, you may receive Karma Points, or deduct them (negative Karma is possible). When you first start of a character, you'll a default zero Karma Point.
Hit another character that has zero or higher Karma Point, and you'll deduct 50 Karma Points on your own character. Kill that said character, and you'll receive -2000 Karma Points, adding up to -2050 Karma Point altogether.
When you've receive negative Karma Points, your name will turn color; orange for less negative Karma (like -50), until a dark purple for strong negative Karma (-2050).
Such characters with orange-purple names are considered criminals, and in the PK server, there are NPCs called 'Guardian NPCs' stationed in every town/city that will kill these criminals on sight.
These criminals, if killed and ressurected, will automatically ressurrect on a jail island of sorts, called Kerbaras. On this island, he/she will need to either regain a positive Karma, or find a key somewhere and then use the key to open the warp to go back to the Flyff world.
Also, on this island, there are NPCs called 'ChaoGuardian NPC' stationed at the camp that will kill any character that has zero or higher Karma Points. Such positive Karma characters, if killed and ressurrected, will automatically appear back in the Flyff world and not on that island.
Anyway, on this island, there is a NPC called 'Heron' (he's like a Pope of sorts), who will provide you quests to 'repent your sins' and regain positive Karma. If your negative Karma is little (-50), you can just wait for some time for it to return back to zero (the last few negative Karma points takes longer). But if you have strong negative Karma (-2050), your Karma won't automatically return to zero, and so you MUST do the quest, if you wanna 'repent your sins'.
The quests to regain your Karma involves killing a number of monsters that are the same level as your character's.
Once completed, your Karma Point returns to positive, and you can return to the Flyff world, either by getting killed or finding the warp place and use a key to warp back. Personally, I still have not yet found where is this warp place, hence, I used the other quicker way at the price of my EXP points.
That's for criminals. For the positive Karma points, you gain by successfully killing these criminals. I personally never tried this, so I do not know much about how much you gain by hitting or killing a criminal.
I do know that green is for less positive Karma Point (+50) and blue is for stronger positive Karma (+5000).
Now, what's the big deal about this positive or negative Karma? It's just the color change for your character's name, isn't it? Isn't that all? No, it's not.
Apparently, if you've negative Karma, you'll have a harder time getting good drops from the monsters you kill. And obviously, with positive Karma, you'll have better luck getting good drops.
Any MMORPG player would know that having better drop rates is a good thing.
And now, I'm telling you a simple secret that will allow you to achieve that!!
NOW, the secret steps to Obtaining a Light-blue character name!!! (Am using terms that Flyff players would understand)
1 - Log into the PK server with a character that is already in his first job (lv15 and above and not a Vagrant). And then hit a character with zero or higher Karma (white -> green -> blue names) and obtained -50 Karma Points. Next, teleport yourself (I supposed with any Blinkwing) or get yourself killed and resurrected (not by an Assist) and appear in Kerbaras.
2- Once at Kerbaras, right there with you would be the Public Office NPC and Heron. Talk to Heron and choose to accept the quest to regain zero Karma Points. The quest requires you to kill 50 monsters of your level. DON'T do the quest. Instead, wait for your Karma to slowly return to zero. (As mentioned, the last few will take longer) Once Karma Point is zero, around 15 minutes, either obtain a Key of Kerbaras and go to Warf (warp place) to warp back to the Flyff world, or be killed by the ChaoGuardian NPC and ressurrect back to the Flyff world.
3 - Back in the Flyff world, now you need to KILL a character with zero or higher Karma, which means obtaining -2050 Karma Point and a purple name. Personally, I found a friend to allow me to kill him. Once that is achieved, get back to Kerbaras in any methods mentioned before. (BEWARE, other players will jump at the opportunity to kill a criminal, cause they get positive Karma and sometimes, your items/money.)
4 - In Kerbaras once more, talk to Heron and choose to do the quest to gain +2000 Karma Points. This quest will require you to kill 200 monsters of your level. At this point, it means you have two quests to do on Kerbaras; kill 50 monsters to return your Karma Point to zero, and to kill 200 monsters to gain +2000 Karma Points. See where I'm going with this yet? No? Then continue reading.
5 - Kill the 50 monsters mentioned in the quest, will take some time to find them and kill them. (Spawn rates are all right, just that there are limited number of the monsters, and they're usually mixed with other types of monsters. Some are aggressive too, btw. And don't even think about getting some good items or gaining experience, cause the drop rate and experience gained just sucks there; i.e. 1-5 penya drops) After 50 of those monsters killed, return to the camp, and talk to Heron to complete the quest. Now you have zero Karma Point and your name is white again. Now, be careful not to be standing near the ChaoGuardian NPC when this happens. Otherwise, they'll kill you and you'll be resurrected back to the Flyff world. Then you'll have to find a way to get back to Kerbaras again. :-/
6 - This step WILL take a while, thus determination is needed here. After achieving zero Karma Point, go back to complete the 200 monsters kill (actually the remaining 150, if your level is still the same as when you first came and obtain the earlier quest). Careful not to get too close to the ChaoGuardian NPC, cause, I forgot to mention this, THEY PACK A WALLOP!! (ignore their lv1, their hits can kill you in an instant). Once you've killed the 200 monsters, and successfully complete your quest by talking to Heron, CONGRATULATIONS! You now have +2000 Karma Points, and a light-blue name!
7 - Final step, return anyhow to the Flyff world, and start killing them monsters to get those better drops!! For your information, your +2000 Karma Points will not dwindle automatically, only if you hit or kill another non-criminal character. I'm sure I don't need to tell you how to avoid that situation. Good luck and have fun with your better drop rate!
I actually just achieved this secret some hours ago. So, you can trust me on this. ^_^
That's pretty it for this post. Boy, that was a long one. Hope you liked my secrets. All the best in your days and stay positive always. *wink*
